LinkedIn Profile

Matt Mahon loves seeing people win. As Vice President, Client Solutions at Level Legal, Matt draws on decades of experience in the eDiscovery industry to do just that by helping clients develop bespoke solutions to their problems.

Matt has seen the industry evolve from bankers boxes to GenAI and understands the discovery challenges that modern law firms and legal teams face inside and out. Through a consultative approach, he helps clients achieve their desired discovery outcomes—whether that is effectively and efficiently surfacing decision-making evidence, building strategy and workflows to meet tight deadlines, or evaluating processes for cost control.

Matt’s passion for solving discovery issues blossomed early in his career. Coming out of college with a degree in mathematics, he joined a document services company and soon found himself in the middle of a patent infringement trial war room. Learning how attorneys thought and understanding the presentation of evidence left a mark on him that influences his service-oriented and problem-solving approach to client relationships to this day.

Prior to joining Level Legal, Matt served as a National Sales Leader for Information Governance and Discovery Services at IT services and consulting company Ricoh for over a decade, and as Executive Director of Discovery Services at legal services provider Trustpoint.One.

Along the way he remained on the cutting edge of the eDiscovery and information governance industries, earning certifications including Certified eDiscovery Specialist from the Association of Certified eDiscovery Specialists (ACEDS), Information Governance Professional (IGP) and Information Specialist (INFO) from ARMA International, and RelativityOne Certified Pro and Relativity Certified Sales Pro from eDiscovery software platform Relativity. Matt also co-founded the ACEDS San Francisco chapter and served as the President of the ACEDS Jacksonville chapter for over three years.

Having presented more than 90 times since 2012, Matt regularly shares his expertise and thought leadership, speaking at industry conferences, CLE events, law firm trainings, and more. Matt speaks on GenAI and eDiscovery, building defensible workflows, the mathematics of validation protocols and technology-assisted review, and much more. In fact, he is one of the foremost industry experts on emojis in eDiscovery—if you have an emoji question, he’s your man!

Matt’s approach combines equal parts knowledge, curiosity, grit, and resilience to push through challenges, build trust, and achieve delightful outcomes. Which is fitting, because in his free time one of Matt’s favorite hobbies is running. He regularly participates in running events (from 5Ks to marathons), which has taught him a lot of lessons about discovery—having a good plan, knowing when it’s time to pivot, taking it one step at a time, and, of course, the hard work it takes to achieve your goal. Whether your next matter is a marathon or sprint, Matt is someone you want in your corner.

Our Framework

Understand.

During this phase, we work to step away from any assumptions and guesses about what our customers needs, and let our research findings inform our decision-making. We learn more about our customers, their problems, wants, and needs, and the environment or context in which they will use the solution we offer.

Our Framework

Define.

During the Define phase, we analyze our research findings from the Understand phase and determine what is the most important problem to solve — and why. This step defines the goal. Then we can give a clear problem statement, describing what our customers’ needs are that we are trying to solve, making sure that we heard and defined their problem correctly.

Our Framework

Solve.

This phase is an important part of the discipline in our process. People often settle for the first solution, but the most obvious solution is often not the right one. During the Solve phase, we brainstorm collaboratively with multiple stakeholders to generate many unique solutions. We then analyze our potential solutions and make choices about which are the best to pursue based on learnings in the Understand phase.

Our Framework

Build & Test.

This phase is critical in developing the right solution to our customers’ problem. An organized approach to testing can help avoid rework and create exceptional outcomes. Starting small and testing the solution, we iterate quickly, before deploying solutions across the entire project.

Our Framework

Act.

During this phase, the hard work of prior phases comes to life in our customers’ best solution. The research, collaboration, and testing performed prior to project kick-off ensure optimal results.

Our Framework

Feedback.

At the project completion, we convene all stakeholders to discuss what went well, what could have been better, and how we might improve going forward. We call these meetings “Retrospectives,” and we perform them internally as a project team, and with our external customers. The Retrospective is one of the most powerful, meaningful tools in our framework.
